The German Shepherd is a large size breed that originated in Germany in 1899. It is a member of the Herding group of dogs. It is a working dog bred for herding and guarding sheep.

They are strong, intelligent, courageous, alert, agile, fearless, clever, confident, and good at obedience training. The German Shepherd is the world’s leading police, guard and military dog. The German Shepherd dog is protective, faithful, direct, energetic, fun loving, and loyal. They are not hostile unless seriously provoked. They will give their lives to protect their humans.

They are one of the most popular breeds of dogs. They should not be left alone for long periods of time. They love their families but are wary of strangers. They bark only when it is important. They love strenuous exercise preferably with training since they like a challenge. They live to about 13 years old.
