Old, Rare American Breed

Dominique Bantams were displayed at the 1873 Pennsylvania American Poultry Association (APA) show. In 1889 'Poultry Monthly' magazine had a photo of a Dominique Bantam.

"My broody hen, Ellie May, cooed with joy as she tucked each precious egg gently under herself as if to say 'thank you this is what I have been asking for'." -Belinda, Muskego, Wisconsin

American Poultry Association

In 1960 Dominique Bantams were accepted by the American Poultry Association into the 'Rose Comb Clean Legged Bantam Class'. They are listed in the book 'The American Standard of Perfection'.

Bantam Eggs Are Smaller

Bantam Dominiques are more broody than standard Dominiques. And except for body and egg size, both types of Dominiques are the same.

"Once the chicks were a day or two old, I would let the kids pick them up - they were so excited and had names for each one! After a few weeks in the classroom, they went to live at another teacher's house that had a few chickens - they have done very well - she says my chickens are very well behaved and thinks it's due to the care and handling they received at a young age." -Debbie, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

Fuzzy Butts

Dominique Bantams adjust well to free range or smaller living conditions in a town or city.
